PT, DPT
Deena comes to James Fowler Physical Therapy with specialized experience in Geriatrics and more specifically Parkinson’s disease. She began her training at Ithaca College where she earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy and a minor in Geriatrics with honors. From there, she continued to hone her skills at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey. Here she was able to treat individuals with limb loss, joint replacements, fractures, spinal surgeries, and cardiac events- experiences that many of the patients at JFPT undergo before our treatment. Because of her work at Kessler, Deena understands the importance of building a healthy, active lifestyle and body awareness which are qualities important to the JFPT model.
In addition to her education and work at Kessler, Deena holds an advanced certification as an LSVT BIG Certified Clinician for the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease. She is able to create special manual treatments and exercise programs for patients with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions. Deena is also passionate about therapy outside of the office, and she is active in the American Physical Therapy Association. As the Communications Chair for the Amputation Care Special Interest Group, she works with students and therapists from across the country to promote evidence based practice, research, and continuing education in the management of limb loss.
When she is not actively promoting therapy practices or assisting patients, Deena does yoga, takes dance classes, and-in the warmer months-enjoys being outside hiking or rock climbing in the Hudson Valley.
